A word search for queries which made it to a ‘US Top Google search queries 2020’ list! BUT this is more than a word search activity! Extend the activity by questioning / discussing further e.g. -Get the kids to share whether they have indeed Google-searched the same queries or what is most commonly searched in their homes. -Ask the kids to look at the queries which they do not recognise and get them to find out about them. -Encourage discussions as to what insights they can infer about the interests of the US population. -Challenge them to guess the Top 10 by putting a star next to 10 of the terms. See how many of the kids get all 10 correct! What assumptions can be made about the revealed Top 10? (Included is a text file of the ‘Top 10’ )

Anyone who loves dinosaurs will love the two wordsearches. There is a 15-dino version and a 30-dino version - use as you need to with your audience. Each one also features 5 silhouettes of popular dinosaurs for the kids to try to name. Wordsearches are a great way to reinforce key terms, enhance vocabulary, help with spelling as well as pattern recognition. They are great for the classroom, at home and events. Have any fans of the Stitch Head books by Guy Bass? Treat them to this duo of activities relating to the first book in the series. One of the activities is a wordsearch, with 40 words / terms to find, and which includes some decorative images to entertain the kids as they work through it. The other activity is a questions worksheet, containing 16 questions relating to the Stitch Head book (book 1). The kids will surely have fun writing down the answers to the questions, and for those who might need some help, you can let them know that all the answers can be found within the list of wordsearch words/terms. Answer sheet for questions included.

TWELVE quality wordsearch puzzles (in a zip file) based on key terms from six Roald Dahl Books: Fantastic Mr Fox; George’s Marvellous Medicine; James and the Giant Peach; Matilda; The Magic Finger; The Twits. 10-word and 30-word wordsearches for each story. (Simple differentiation / use depending on the time available.) These were used with Year / Grade 5 children when they were reading Roald Dahl stories and they thoroughly enjoyed them (and older (or younger!) children will enjoy them too.) These were used in class as a starter, to support their recollection of events in the books, as well as to reinforce spellings. They were also used with students as part of World Book Day celebrations and as part of school library sessions to promote the love of reading.
